xx’s Islands

One of the best songs on the xx’s latest album has a great video as well:

It has spawned a cottage remix industry, too. My favorite might be the Chllnger version but Delorean’s take is also awesome.

The Temper Trap Remixes

As noted by people smarter than me, today is a great time to be a consumer of music. For example, the internet has created a viable avenue to quickly distribute remixes, and subsequently spawned fan base for them. I’ve been digging these two remixes of “Sweet Disposition” this week:

Now Can I Get An Encore

I mentioned how Marc Lynch analyzed The Game’s challenge to Jay-Z’s hegemony in rap through the lens of IR literature. It hit the (relative) big-time with NPR doing a segment on the subject this morning.

Jay-Z and the Plight of the Hegemon

Marc Lynch has a great post analyzing Jay-Z and the battle for rap supremacy through IR theory. Spencer Ackerman runs with the idea and examines how, by attacking auto-tune, Jay-Z may have overreached with his latest hit song in typical hegemonic fashion.

Ridiculousness Canceled

I had a ticket for the Daddy Yankee concert this Friday in Cochabamba. It was canceled due the swine flu and the medical mask trend shows no sign of abating. The reaction to swine flu is really something here. For example, the public university, San Simón, has been closed (and classes cancelled) for the past two weeks. Anyways, some reggaeton for everyone:
